Our origin

Born on the Brooklyn waterfront, built for coasts everywhere.

Flumberico began in 2011 when a trio of coastal engineers, a lighting designer, and a harbor pilot wanted to prove that resilience and beauty could coexist. Today we operate as a multidisciplinary studio delivering waterfront experiences across the Atlantic seaboard.

Why “Flumberico”?

Our founders blended “flume” (a channel for moving water) and “umbrico” (Latin for illuminated) to capture the heart of our work: guiding water responsibly while lighting the spaces people love.

The brand also nods to Brooklyn’s waterfront craft heritage—all our prototypes are fabricated alongside DUMBO makers before scaling to national projects.

Studio values

  • Resilience first. Every design is stress-tested against future climate projections.
  • Hospitality matters. Coastal safety should feel like an invitation, not a warning.
  • Shared stewardship. Community boards, students, and harbor pilots co-create with us.
  • Radical transparency. Clients receive live dashboards and open-spec documentation.

Leadership crew.

The Flumberico founders stay embedded in projects from visioning through commissioning.
